"Life Extended" continues Bigert & Bergström's exploration of human striving to control life and death. In this film we meet the gerontologist who believes we will be immortal in the near future, the architects who construct spaces to slow down the ageing process, the monk who runs for a 1000 days in order to strengthen his spirit for it's immortal journey, the street kids who live in the moment and many others.

Opposíng the static image of the staircase of life the film is constructed as a relay race where people are moving towards the viewer. “Today ageing is subject to control” as the biochemist puts it. And the speed with which this biotechnologiscal development is moving indicates that the next coming generations will live very long lives.

Initiated as a work of art the film envisions a contemporary Memento Mori where death will soon be nothing but a memory.

Bigert & Bergström is an artist duo living and working in Stockholm, Sweden.
