Grand Prix of the Divine Comedy Festival for NO MATTER HOW HARD WE TRIED
The 2nd Divine Comedy International Theatre Festival concluded in the night of 14 to 15 December with a ceremonial announcement of jury’s verdict. Grand Prix for the best performance was awarded to TR Warszawa for NO MATTER HOW HARD WE TRIED directed by Grzegorz Jarzyna – “for an open-minded observation of contemporary Poland, ironic and profound at the same time. The performance is excellent in every aspect: direction, acting, stage design and coherence”.
A special award was also given to Dorota Masłowska for her play “No Matter How...”: “for an intelligent expression of double and triple meanings and for multiplying unexpected solutions”.
The statuette of the Divine Comedian was awarded to Magdalena Maciejewska for stage design in T.E.O.R.E.M.A.T. directed by Grzegorz Jarzyna: “for creating of a coherent scenery in which individuality results from powerful emotions; with a special distinction for light direction” (by Jacqueline Sobiszewski).
The Best Director Award went to Krzysztof Warlikowski for “(A)pollonia”, the Best Actress Award went to Magdalena Cielecka for her performance in “(A)pollonia” and the Best Actor was Piotr Skiba in "Persona. Marilyn" directed by Krystian Lupa. The entire ensemble of Teatr Stary in Kraków was awarded for “Trilogy” by Jan Klata.
Just like it was last year, five awards, 10,000 PLN each, were sponsored by the Minister of Kulture and National Heritage. The Mayor of Kraków Mr. Jacek Majchrowski honored the best performance of the festival with a special prize of 100,000 PLN.
During the festival the audience could watch 21 performances altogether staged in the theatres of Kraków: nine perfrormances competing for the awards (Inferno), seven performances produced by young directors (Paradiso) and five other shows that were promoting Krakow’s stages.
